Die Another Day

sunny 30 °C

I felt I would title my blog post with a James Bond movie as I felt like Pierce Brosnan on his motor bike (ok it is a scooter) racing up and down narrow alleys and paths on the way to our match on Friday. I was again on the back of coach Zaya’s “hog” with a helmet on. We were following coach Heri who grew up in Malang and knows every back route---believe me. At one point we went down a steep slope that even Zaya said”OH OH”..which means “OH OH” in English…the narrow path went straight down at the angle of a steep roller coaster track...at the bottom we had to do a 90 degree right…IF the turn was not successful we would gone over a small fence and plunged into a 50 foot ravine…Daniel Craig would not have done it better and with such speed as Heri who was enjoying this knowing that Zaya and I were not...once you made the turn you went over a very narrow “bridge” that was made in the Ming dynasty (or appeared to be) then straight up the narrowest of paths with dangers on both sides…even “Q” would have been wondering if the bike and us would survive ….anyways we made it….

Unfortunately the game was changed to a different field than our HOME field I posted about last week so no photos of that field. However there were A LOT of similarities and a few differences that I will try to describe as best I can.
- Same 3’ corner flags
- Game did not start on time
- Many “officials”
- Green bananas
- “food cart”
- Prayers before and after match
- Parking police
- Bamboo player benches
- Hard pitch which would make Lansdowne look like Wembley

- 3 balls dropped off just before game…1 flat this time
- New uniforms..(see team photo)..supplied by League
- Goals were regulation size
- No jungle to lose ball in…rice patties instead
- Porlis/Polris(our team) won 5-1..they have figured out my system now(ha!)
- Michael Jeckson scored twice but no “Moonwalk” celebration this time...disappointing
- 1 corner flag flew at half-mast..(see photo)..not sure if anyone important passed away

Anyways, take care my friends
